The defining character of a panic attack is the sense of an imminent loss of control. This shows up in a driving phobia in two ways. Some people are afraid of being a passenger in the car, because they have a sense of not being in control. They may avoid aeroplanes for the same reason. Others are afraid of driving the car because they are afraid of losing control of the wheel and causing an accident. This is the outcome – the cause may be unknown, or may be as a result of a trauma such as a previous accident. Whatever the cause of your phobia, we can help.
Does this sound familiar? If you plan your route to avoid certain roads such as motorways or dual carriageways, or only drive when absolutely necessary, then you have a driving phobia.
Who better to help you than someone who is a therapist, worked as a driving instructor for over 20 years and is now a member of the Institute of Master Tutors of Driving! This unique experience means you are in the best hands possible to help with general driving phobias, or specific fears such as motorways, parking, town driving etc.
You also have the opportunity to ‘expose’ yourself to your fear in the safest environment possible; your own car with a calm, experienced person beside you, who is there to help with not only your anxiety, but the practical aspects of driving as well. This can be a half or full day, and is conducted in your own vehicle. Based 20 minutes from J14/15 of the M6, we will arrange a suitable location to meet. For more information, please contact us.
As an alternative to a 1-2-1 session, the video demonstrations in the Driving Test Nerves online course are just as suitable for helping with driving fears and phobias as they are for helping learner drivers with their test nerves! Anyone who books a 1-2-1 session will receive this course for free.
