I have been a Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor for over eight years,
and during this time I became more and more frustrated at the number of good drivers who failed their test as a result of
nerves on the day and making a silly mistake on test that they wouldn't normally do on a driving lesson. In addition
I felt I was spending so much time repeating myself as pupils often forgot so much of what they had learned from one lesson
to the next - so much in fact that sometimes it felt like I wasn't teaching 20 lessons, but one lesson repeated 20 times!
I decided that I had to do something about it and so I spent 18 months researching different methods to help
pupils pass their driving test stress free, in fewer repetitive lessons, and ultimately to become good, safe, and considerate
drivers.
I saw Paul McKenna on TV and thought 'if I could get him to work his 'magic' on my
pupils, then they could overcome their nerves on test day'. I contacted Paul McKenna training and met up with his
good friend and colleague, Kevin Laye. After discussing my ideas for a book along the lines of 'I will make you pass your
driving test' by Paul McKenna, Kevin suggested that I train as a Thought Field Therapist myself and personally prove that
pupils can take their test feeling calm, relaxed, totally focused, and in control of their emotions. He was right of course;
you need to experience something yourself to be able to write about it with conviction, and the many reviews on Amazon for
my methods and the book are evidence of the efficacy of Thought Field Therapy.
During my first conversation with
Kevin Laye he described me as having 'Congruence of Passion' and that feeling has never waned since my initial idea
for writing this book. This is a burning passion for me and my ultimate goal would be to see all driving schools/instructors
in the country using my book. It breaks my heart when I'm in the test centre and I see another instructor with
a really nervous pupil and I think 'I could prevent you from having these nerves and help you to pass your test calmly'. This
is what spurred me on to write L of a way 2 Pass, and I trained with Janet Thomson in March 2008, and wrote my book over the
next few months, evenutally having it published in November 2008.
Because this project would potentially help so
many people, I was given a grant from UnLtd., the Millenium Awards Trust for Social Entrepreneurs, for which I am eternally
grateful. I have the honour of being featured in their leaflets on Road Safety, and have spoken at their seminars for
new Social Entrepreneurs.
